DIGISAKSHAM – AN INITIATIVE BY MICROSOFT AND LABOUR MINISTRY | UPSC EXAMOn September 30, 2021, Union Labour and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, in conjunction with Microsoft, inaugurated DigiSaksham. It’s a digital skills programme that seeks to improve youth employability by teaching them important digital skills in an increasingly technology-driven world. DigiSaksham is a collaborative effort of the Central Government and Microsoft India, and it is an expansion of the government’s existing youth assistance programmes in rural and semi-urban regions. While addressing at the opening of DigiSaksham, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav remarked that fast-paced technological advancements necessitate reskilling, continual skilling, and up-skilling. IMPORTANCE OF THE PROGRAMME – There will be three forms of training available under the initiative: Digital Skills self-paced learning, VILT mode training, and ILT mode training (instructor-led). In-person ILT training for SCs/STs will be provided in Model Career Centres (MCCs) and National Career Service Centres (NCSCs) around the country as part of the programme. Aga Khan Rural Support Programme India will implement the DigiSaksham project on the ground in India (AKRSP-I). Nearly one crore active job seekers registered on the National Career Service (NCS) portal will be able to access training in areas such as data visualisation, JAVA Script, Advanced Excel, Power Bi, introduction to coding, and programming languages through the DigiSaksham initiative, which will equip them with the skills required in the digital economy. In the first year, the project would provide technical skills to around 3,00,000 adolescents. On the NCS site, job seekers from throughout the country will have access to Microsoft learning materials such as data analytics, programming languages, enhanced digital productivity, and software development foundations. DETAILS OF NCS – The National Career Service Project has been implemented as a Mission Mode Project by the Labour and Employment Ministry in order to transform the National Employment Service and provide a variety of employment-related services such as career counselling, job matching, internships, apprenticeships, and information on skill development courses, among others. The services under the initiative, which was committed to the country by Prime Minister Modi in 2015, are now available online. All of the portal’s services are free, and it may be accessed directly via Common Service Centers, mobile devices, Career Centers, and internet Cafes, among other places.
