OVERVIEW
- On September 16, 2021, state-owned BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited) announced that in Andhra Pradesh it will commission India’s largest floating solar photovoltaic plant.
- BHEL said that the project is 25 megawatts and it is located in Andhra Pradesh at NTPC simhadri, covering an area of 100 acres.
- Because of the cooling effect, the floating photovoltaic project of Andhra Pradesh will give a higher result as compare to conventional ground-mounted projects.
- By providing shade to the covered areas, it will reduce water evaporation.
- By reducing evaporation, it will also help in saving valuable land resources.
- To withstand the gusts of wind up to 180km/hr, the complex model array has been designed for the first time in India.
- The equipment and all the platform structures have been made corrosion-resistant because the project is in a coastal location that leads to corrosion.
