10 YEAR CLIMATE ACTION PLAN BY DELHI GOVERNMENT | UPSC EXAM

INTRODUCTION

  • The last climate action plan by the Delhi government expired in the year 2020 and thus the state is due to submit another plan for the coming 10 years by the end of the year.
  • National Action Plan on Climate Change or NAPCC was prepared by central government in 2009 and then asked for each state to submit its own plan, where Delhi was the last state to do so in 2019.
  • The plan that was submitted was mostly on papers and not implemented properly by 2020 and due to which not Delhi has to submit another plan.
  • Delhi government’s earlier climate action plan has its focus on six main areas which included transport, urban development, energy as well as green cover.
  • The previous plan predicted a significant change in heavy rainfall and cold days as well as nights in Delhi.

NEW ACTION PLAN BY DELHI GOVERNMENT –

  • New 10-year action plan will be identifying the things that are responsible for causing increased greenhouse effect and then fix the issues of the concerned department.
  • The government of the state might also win a German institute as the knowledge partner for new plan.
  • The environment department of the Delhi government has asked the Ministry of Environment to provide two million rupees to prepare the plan.
  • The plan is under preparation after a proper analysis of the extreme weather over the past 10 years.

KEY POINTS OF THE PLAN –

  • The current plan has its focus on tackling greenhouse emissions, renewable energy, air pollution and conditioning, agriculture patterns etc.
  • All the consultations will be implemented by the end of the year.
