INTRODUCTION
The vriksharopan Abhiyan 2021 is going to be launched by the ministry of coal in India on August 19, 2021, as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.
This Abhiyan will be launched via video conferencing by Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs in the presence of Raosaheb Patil Danve, Minister of State for Coal, Mines, and Railways.
It is an aspiring goal under the Go Greening drive to bring 2,385 hectares of land under bio-reclamation or plantation, of the coal/lignite Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) of the Ministry of Coal, Government of India.
WHAT IS VRIKSHAROPAN ABHIYAN 2021 –
It is a great startup by the Ministry of Coal as a part of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav celebrations in the sectors of coal in India.
This Abhiyan aims to support India’s coal sector to attain an environmental and social license to handle and persuade environmental stability in the mining sector.
The Abhiyan is also expecting to promote more afforestation by people.
CHALLENGES FACED BY THE INDIAN ENERGY SECTOR –
In the past four decades, the primary energy consumption of India has been increased by 700 percent.
Because of the fast-emerging economy, India is facing two challenges – to meet the goal of decarbonizing the energy sector and the second is to fulfill the rising demand for energy in the country.
The whole of which is primarily dependent on coal due to its indigenous presence and affordability.
EFFORTS BY INDIA’S COAL SECTOR –
The most abundant fossil fuel in India is coal, India fulfills 55 percent of its energy demand through coal.
Taking in the sense that India is highly dependent on the coal sector for fulfilling its energy requirement, the country is adopting several innovative startups.
Go Greening drive is one of the greatest initiatives that have been started in coal mining fields.
