ZIRO ORCHID CONSERVATION AND PROPAGATION CENTRE INAUGRATION

INTRODUCTION

  • The Ziro Orchid Conservation and Propagation Centre located in Hapoli, Loer Subansiri District, Arunachal Pradesh has about 50 different species of Orchids that are also available for sale for the public at a quite nominal price.
  • It was inaugurated by Tage Taki, the Agriculture and Horticulture minister of the state.
  • Launch of the centre was the initiative of Hapoli Forest Division and is located inside the DFO office campus.
  • The Hapoli Forest Division was applauded for the efforts as it took a step to preserve the nature in the natural form by the minister.

OBJECTIVE OF ZIRO CENTRE –

  • The centre helps the daily folks in understanding the abundance of orchids surrounding them but are not valued by them.
  • Also, it makes the orchid exhibition more accessible to common people.
  • Since it is allowed for the locals to buy the orchids for themselves, it creates awareness about the same among them.

IMPORTANT DETAILS OF THE CENTRE –

  • There are about 558 species of orchid recorded in Arunachal Pradesh, which is the largest number throughout India.

The Ziro centre is the second facility of its kind after the one in Tippi in West Camon.
